This case of medical instruments from the 19th century is one of several similar items in the collection of the Harrodsburg Historical Society.
The worn cover of Dr. Thrift's ledger is shown below.
Perryville Battlefield Doctor's Ledger Returns to Kentucky
Dr. Robert Wilson Thrift of the 49th Ohio Volunteers treated soldiers after the Battle of Perryville (1862) and kept a ledger of his patients in the hospital at Harrodsburg. The ledger somehow made its way to New York, where it was located by a friend of the Harrodsburg Historical Society. The precious ledger was purchased by the Friends of Perryville Battlefield and is being transcribed by Kentucky historian Ms. Joan House. This precious document of local history will be presented to the Harrodsburg Historical Society to enhance our Archives. Ms. House will give a presentation about the physician and his work, and the process of acquisition and transcription of this historic document.
