

Lexington, Harrodsburg, and Perryville Turnpike Rural Historic District

This historic district extends from the eastern edge of Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, westward along US Rte. 68 to just before the US127 bypass around Harrodsburg. The turnpike route was created in 1833, and was a national postal route during the nineteenth. This district nomination form discusses the properties along this route, as well as the history of the Lexington-Harrodsburg-Perryville Turnpike as an important transportation route, and the Shakers at Pleasant Hill and their relationship with their surrounding neighborhood.
