St. Peter’s AME Church

225 W Lexington St, Harrodsburg, KY

St. Peter's AME Church is significant as a local example of how elements such as symmetry and pedimented portico from the Classical Revival style were used in the ornamentation of a church building. The congregation of St. Peter's AME Church was founded in 1839. The first church building was on East St. and Broadway. The present building was begun on July 10,1917 and completed in 1918. George Sallee, Jr., was the contractor and members of the congregation worked with him to complete the building.
