Founded in 1910, HHS has been documenting area history for well over a century. We are one of the oldest historical societies in Kentucky. We host fun and informative meetings and events at Morgan Row - once Morgan's Tavern - the historic row house that has sheltered local gatherings for over 200 years. Community members of all ages comes together to enjoy interesting speakers and presentations about our local history.
Our object is to "collect and perpetuate facts of historic interest relative to Mercer County; to awaken an interest in the study of the history of this County and of the entire state; to collect and preserve relics and documents of interest." Our Research Library holds a wealth of local history publications, files, newspapers, government documents, and other information to assist you in your search for historical, genealogical, or geographical information. A large collection of artifacts provide insight into the material culture of the past.
We operate with an amazing all volunteer team who share a passion for history. These include volunteers who serve on the board, conduct research and maintenance in the library, assist with committees in events, grounds, finance, building maintenance, food & drink, and much more. If you'd like to volunteer in any capacity, please contact us. at (859) 734-5985
We also remember the hundreds of volunteers and supporters who came before in our long 110 year history, without whom we would not be here today.
Harrodsburg Historical Society relies on financial support from local residents as well as supporters throughout the country who make up our historical community. Through continued donations and annual dues we are able to continue to preserve the stories, artifacts, and documents of history. We are a 501c3 Non-profit organization, so your donation is tax deductible and deeply appreciated.
